In 1987,the Lord sent him to Cotonou,the Economic capital of Benin Republic,where powers of darkness has its stronghold in West Africa. As a missionary he became one of the first pioneer of the Inter-denominational English Church in Cotonou where the fire of revival started in Benin Republic and later handed over to the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in 1997.

Immediately after his education from bible college;1990-1996,the lord spoke to him with audible voice again that he had set before him an open door of which no man can shut,he was therefore asked to preach the word with confidence.

John O.Akanu is a dynamic and anointed Preacher and teacher,he places emphasis more on the ministry of the word and prayer,and he is mightily used on prophetics,healings and deliverance;
A conference speaker and a revivalist.

He is happily married to Evangelist Mrs.Nnenna and they are blessed with three boys and two girls.
